MATLAANZ (Māori Association of Tertiary Learning Advisors Aotearoa New Zealand) is a community of Learning Advisors and affiliated kaimahi who have an interest in authentic ways of building and facilitating higher education aspirations of Māori tauira and staff in tertiary organizations. It seeks to lift and normalise the indigenous teaching and learning practices with all educators. Through manaakitanga, tautoko, tika and pono, we provide a space for whanaungatanga (connection), kōrerorero (discussion), tautohetohe (debate), mātauranga Māori (Māori epistemology) and Rangahau (Māori research) dissemination.
We also contribute to the biannual regional hui, amalgamating with PATLAANZ (our Pasifika affiliate) to run a Hui Fono event where indigenous voice, relevant topics and research can be realised in a culturally responsive community. On alternate years, MATLAANZ encourages participation in the ATLAANZ Conference to bring relevant topics or research to share with peers and the wider fraternity.
